The Power of Self Awareness
Wednesday Aug 10, 2022
Wednesday Aug 10, 2022
Do you hold yourself accountable to good reps? Are you really working at getting to full depth or getting your chin over the bar? When you add that extra weight, are your reps as good as if you took a few pounds off and focused on getting quality reps in?
Sometimes taking the focus away from the quantity of workout and turning it to the quality of those workouts can positively impact fitness.
Another question you may need to ask your self: Am I always staying within my comfort zone during my workouts?
Listen in to hear why Coach Perren thinks this questions is important, and how you can start achieving your goals using self awareness!

Also coming up in a few months is the CrossFIt Level 1 course which we will be hosting here at our gym. Coach Bennett is back on the podcast to talk about something we know by now is very important: managing our time.
More specifically, Bennett talks about the habit of utilizing your time wisely. This may look different for each person, but what matters most is that we are taking advantage of the minutes we have that we could be using to build better versions of ourselves. Bennett also addresses the question: Why do we do things that are challenging to us? You’ll have to listen in to hear the answer!

An inside look into planning the BCS Classic
Wednesday Jul 13, 2022
Wednesday Jul 13, 2022
This week on the Building Better People Podcast, Charlie is talking to Amanda, who is the Assistant Event Director for the BCS Classic. Amanda takes care of all of the day-of (and now, multiple day-of) logistics for the entire event, which means she stays busy pretty much year round! Prior to serving at the Classic, she did a lot of event planning as a military spouse, which is where she developed her event planning and logistics skills.
Amanda has been serving in this role since 2019, when Charlie had the idea to grow the competition exponentially from years past. When she first signed on to help, she had ZERO idea who Rich Froning was—it was only after she heard how excited the team was that she decided to go look him up since one of her day-of roles was to make sure he had everything he needed.
Listen in for some more history of the BCS Classic and to get an inside look into what goes into planning an event like this.

July Gym Update
Wednesday Jul 06, 2022
Wednesday Jul 06, 2022

They also discuss all the many volunteer opportunities available for the weekend of the BCS Classic, which is August 26-27. Whether you can volunteer the whole weekend, or only a few hours a day, we have something for you.
Charlie also gives an update on the construction around the gym—we are so appreciative of the patience everyone has shown as we have taken steps to make our gym a place where everyone wants to be.

What do you do after you’ve met your goal?
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
Meet Beth—she is no stranger to the Building Better People Podcast. Beth originally shared her fitness journey on the very first episode of the Building Better People podcast which was published on January 4, 2017 — and she is back to give an update on her fitness journey.
Beth is in a really fun spot because she met her original fitness goal about a year ago, and has since entered into a new phase that has brought about a whole new set of challenges. She recently completed a maintenance period and is now in a build phase where she is purposefully trying to gain weight to build muscle. What she once thought was easy to do has proven to be just as difficult, if not more, than dieting and trying to lose weight! She also opens up about her decision to have plastic surgery to remove the extra skin from her 120+ pound weight loss journey.
Beth also talks about the importance of having goals, even if you’ve reached your original fitness goal. For Beth, setting small goals to keep her motivated as she works towards a bigger goal is extremely helpful. Listen in to hear a truly inspiring fitness journey!

BCS Classic Favorite Moments
Wednesday Jun 08, 2022
Wednesday Jun 08, 2022
Charlie is on the podcast today talking with Beth Deuermeyer. You may not know Beth, but if you follow the BCS Classic or BoomFit on Facebook or Instagram, you have likely interacted with her. Beth runs social media for the BCS Classic as well as for the gym.
Beth and Charlie talk about the upcoming competition and reflect back on some of their favorite moments from the past few years of competition. Of course, some of these favorite moments include watching Jon Devlin meet Rich Froning for the first time, as well as many other Rich Froning moments, but some of our most loved moments come from watching all the athletes compete. One thing both Charlie and Beth enjoy is seeing the same people come back year after year.
